    • Someone Like Me

      $14.99

The teen years are a time of experimenting. You’re trying on different identities, different activities, seeing which ones fit the best. You might like to be known as a good student, or you may prefer to be known as an athlete. Maybe you’re carving out an identity as a loner, a leader, or a class clown.

Whatever your actions are, they tell others a lot about who you want to be. But God knows that there is more to you than what meets the eye and he cares for you, inside and out. These 31 days of devotionals-each with stories about teens, room to journal, relevant Scriptures, and thoughts to think about-will help you learn to care, too. They’ll also help you trust that, whatever choices you make, you can always find your identity in the one who made you and loves who you are.

    • Journey To The Center Of The Faith

      $10.99

In this book you will find one pastor’s attempt to talk about the Christian faith in ways that connect with a vast majority of people who, in a time of great extremes, are searching for a clear center to their faith – “an inner core of conviction and belief that will enable us to keep our balance in the whirling tornado of cultural change and confusion that threatens to engulf us.” As author James A. Harnish describes it, we are all ordinary people on an extraordinary journey toward a center that will hold true, a life-giving center defined by faith in God revealed through Jesus Christ. Each of the twelve chapters focuses on a central theme and features several quotations from scripture and other writings; colorful personal stories and anecodotes; questions, activities, and suggestions for better Christian living through putting the chapter’s theme into practice; and suggestioms for further reading.

    • Preaching The Psalms

      $20.99

In recent years the church has rediscovered the Psalter as a source of inspiration and language for the praise of God in worship. Yet, in spite of this fact, the Psalms are often neglected in preparing for one of the central acts of worship:preaching. Even among those whose preaching follows the lectionary–with its weekly visit to the Psalter–many preachers assume that other texts will lend themselves better to the task of preaching. J. Clinton McCann and James C. Howell propose to address this perception by demonstrating that the Psalms offer the preacher broad and rich possibilities for the congregation’s engagement with Scripture in preaching. The book includes several sample sermons that will further clarify the author’s points regarding the Psalms as a source for Christian preaching.

    • Beleaguered Rulers : The Public Obligation Of The Professional

      $55.00

Professionals today wield an enormous public power. Collectively, their decisions affect the patient’s plight, the client’s fate, the student’s future, the city’s scape, the earth’s sustainability, the worker’s fair treatment, and the durability of institutions great and small. Yet professionals did not perceive themselves as power wielders. They feel beleagured, marginal, insufficiently appreciated, often under seige. Thus they tend to obscure for themselves their obligations to the common good. This book explores eight professions as they struggle with their double identity – as a means to a livelihood and as a “common calling in the spirit of public service.” An interpretation of American culture emerges from its pages, as social critic William May opens up the ways in which each profession answers to something deep in the American spirit.

Chesterton’s interest in Catholic Christianity, first expressed in Orthodoxy, led to his conversion from Anglicanism to Roman Catholicism in 1922. • Matthew And Empire

      $51.95

In Matthew and Empire, Warren Carter argues that Matthew’s Gospel protests Roman imperialism by asserting that God’s purpose and will are performed not only by the empire and emperor but by Jesus and his community of disciples. Carter makes the claim for reading Matthew this way against the almost exclusive emphasis on the relationship with the synagogue that has long characterized Matthean scholarship. He establishes Matthew’s imperial context by examining Roman imperial ideology and material presence in Anitoch, the traditional provenance for Matthew. Carter argues that Matthean Christology, which presents Jesus as God’s agent, is shaped by claims-and protests against those claims-that the emperor and the empire are God’s agents.

She was a young married woman, curled up next to Dan, her sleeping husband. . .

      $21.00

This single volume gathers theologians from around the world to address three pressing questions: How can Christianity and Christian churches rethink themselves and their roles in light of the endangered earth? What “earth-honoring” elements does justice- oriented Christianity have to contribute to the common good? And how can communities and churches respond creatively and constructively on a local level to these vast global forces? This volume captures the chief themes and presentations from the October 1998 conference on social justice, ecology, and church entitled “Ecumenical Earth” and held at Union Theological Seminary. Among the 18 contributors to this trailblazing conference are Rasmussen and Hessel, James Cone, Kusumita Pedersen, Brigitte Kahl, Ibrahim M. $16.00

This new Sacred Energies volume shows how the world’s major religious traditions, though largely patriarchal, can also serve as a profound resource for redressing gender injustices. This reassessment must be taken up by men themselves. The heritage of our sacred texts speaks in a male voice and almost always to male advantage. Men therefore owe it to themselves to extricate themselves from this complicity and to ask, as does this book, how our scriptures, founding prophets, and ancestors can be used today to further justice in relations between the genders.

    • Divided By Faith

      $38.31

Through a nationwide telephone survey of 2,000 people and an additional 200 face-to-face interviews, Michael O. Emerson and Christian Smith probed the grassroots of white evangelical America. They found that despite recent efforts by the movement’s leaders to address the problem of racial discrimination, evangelicals themselves seem to be preserving America’s racial chasm. In fact, most white evangelicals see no systematic discrimination against blacks. But the authors contend that it is not active racism that prevents evangelicals from recognizing ongoing problems in American society. Instead, it is the evangelical movement’s emphasis on individualism, free will, and personal relationships that makes invisible the pervasive injustice that perpetuates racial inequality. Most racial problems, the subjects told the authors, can be solved by the repentance and conversion of the sinful individuals at fault.
the authors throw sharp light on the oldest American dilemma. In the end, they conclude that despite the best intentions of evangelical leaders and some positive trends, real racial reconciliation remains far over the horizon.

His incisive analysis of the nature of religious truth gives you criteria for evaluating rival claims—and provides a framework for an evangelical theology of religions.

    • Caso De La Fe – (Spanish)

      $16.99

In The Case for Faith, Strobel turns his tenacious investigative skills to the most persistent emotional objections to belief – the eight “heart” barriers to faith. The Case for Faith is for those who may be feeling attracted to Jesus but who are faced with formidable intellectual barriers standing squarely in their path. For Christians, it will deepen their convictions and give them fresh confidence in discussing Christianity with even their most skeptical friends. In The Case for Faith, Lee Strobel probes the most thorny of questions, what he calls “The Big Eight”, including: If there is a loving God, why does this world groan under so much suffering and evil? If God really created the universe, why does science compel so many to conclude that evolution account for life? If God is the ultimate overseer of the church, why has it been rife with hypocrisy and brutality through the ages? If God truly cares about the people he created, how could he consign so many of them to an eternity of torture in hell just because they didn’t believe the right things about him? As a seasoned journalist with Yale Law background, Strobel methodically tracks sown his leads and asks the gritty, gut-wrenching questions you would want to ask questions that can make or break the Christian faith. He refuses to patronize or offer cliched, glib answers. Instead, he pieces together heard facts trough interviews with nine of the country’s top scholars and experts. The result? Solid, persuasive, engrossing, and smart answers to your deepest questions. The Case for Faith will set you on the path to belief, renewed, restored – or discovered for the very first time.

    • Gifted By Otherness

      $22.95

Gay and lesbian Christians are in the awkward position of trying to explain themselves to two mutually hostile audiences. On the one side, the gay-lesbian community is often deeply suspicious of anyone connected with Christianity. On the other side sits the church, which often wishes that gays and lesbians would go away, or at least disappear into the woodwork quietly. But the gay and lesbian community has a unique vocation in today’s church, one of challenging the church to be inclusive of all God’s children–the central message of the Gospel. Based on retreats they have presented to churches and seminaries, authors L. William Countryman and M.R. Ritley explore what it means to affirm, not merely accept, being gay or lesbian, as well as Christian. This pro-active and self-affirming book provides new hope for the lesbigay community, their families and their communities, confidently appropriating and re-telling the biblical story of this unique and gifted minority’s spiritual journey.
