What was there in Jesus’ person, behavior, and words that prompted not only much enthusiasm but also much hostility? This compelling portrait of the man Jesus of Nazareth by two pioneers of the anthropological study of early Christianity answers this vital question. They bring the fruit of years of scholarship to bear on a radical figure in Roman Galilee and on his encounters with others and the movement those encounters inspired. They give close attention to the everyday realities that shaped those encounters: the facts of travel, common meals, domestic space, and the interactions of bodies. The result is a refreshing new look at the man who proved so significant-and so controversial-in Western culture.

Messianic Rabbi Shares Compelling Case for Jesus as Messiah

Raised in a traditional Jewish family, international television host Jonathan Bernis was taught from a young age that “Jews don’t-and can’t!-believe in Jesus.” Yet in his study of the Bible, including the Torah, he found overwhelming evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really was the Jewish Messiah.

With warmth and transparency, Bernis talks about discovering Jesus in history, too, and how it was that the Jewish Yeshua became the Gentile Jesus. By presenting historic evidence that Jesus is Messiah and refuting common Jewish objections, Bernis gives Christians the knowledge and tools they need to share their Lord with their Jewish friends in a loving, effective way.

  • Jesus : The Way The Truth And The Life

    $43.99

Jesus – The Way, The Truth and The Life” will prove that Jesus is the only Way to God, the very embodiment of all Truth and the very essence of Life, just as He declared of Himself in the fourteenth chapter and sixth verse of the gospel of John by saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life and that no one comes to the Father except through Me.”

This book will show using systematic theology, proofs and truth arguments that Jesus is exactly who He says He is, confirmed by God the Father, the Holy Spirit and by Christ Himself.

Jesus said in Mark 8; 27 of scripture “Who do you say I Am.” This book will make it obvious why you must answer this pointed question just as Peter did in claiming to Jesus that “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God”. Time is getting short and Jesus is on His way back to earth. It’s not a time to be confused or wrong on issues having eternal consequences.

Though the book reads as a college textbook it forces you to think and study the word of God. The book is most valuable in a curriculum setting or for those interested in Christian apologetics. Jesus is compared to a myriad of other secular philosophies both past and present and as a result it is conclusively obvious that Jesus is the way, truth and the life and all others are false.

This book stands on the foundation that a relationship with God thru Christ is by faith alone (Sola Fide), by grace alone (Sola Gratia), by Christ alone (Solus Christus), by scripture alone (Sola Scriptura) and with glory to God alone (Soli Deo Gloria).

  • Neat Jewish Stuff For Christians

    $15.49

Have you ever wondered why the Bible is so, well, Jewish?

God revealed His character and his plan for the world through His chosen people, the Jews. It was through the line of Abraham that the Bible was written. It was from this same line that Jesus was born. It was from the Jews that Jesus called his disciples, and out of Judaism the early church was born.

Neat Jewish Stuff for Christians reveals many facets of ancient Jewish religious and cultural life which Jesus used to help His listeners understand His teachings. Through understanding these rites and customs, God’s plan for drawing us into relationship with Him is revealed.

Neat Jewish Stuff for Christians brings the reader to a better understanding of the Jewish roots of the Christian faith and the message of Jesus. Questions for discussion are included after each chapter. As Dr. Teitelbaum sums up: “Christians grow in worshipful appreciation of Jesus when His roots in Judaism are understood.”

  • Names Of Jesus From A To Z

    $10.99

Though the title mentions letters of the alphabet, this book is not a children’s book. No! It is a book for everyone because we all can learn more about Jesus. Names of Jesus from A to Z was written to give readers a better understanding of God the Father and Jesus, His beloved son.

In the Baltimore Catechism #1, the question “Why did God make me?” is answered with the response, “God made me to know Him, to love Him, to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in Heaven.” It is our responsibility to know God. Scripture tells us in Peter 3:18, “But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Knowledge leads to love.

Through Names of Jesus from A to Z we have a simple way to learn about God. The names and titles given to Jesus in Scripture provide a good description of God’s love and mercy for mankind.

  • Historical Jesus : What We Can Know And How We Can Know It

    $20.99

This provocative little book addresses two primary questions: What does “historical” mean? and How should we apply this to Jesus?

Anthony Le Donne begins with the unusual step of considering human perception – how sensory data from sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell are interpreted from the outset by what we expect, what we’ve learned, and how we categorize the world. In this way Le Donne shows how historical memories are initially formed. He unpacks the nature of human memory and how it interacts with group memories. Finally he demonstrates how his definition and philosophy of history can be used to illuminate three dimensions of Jesus’ life: his dysfunctional family, his politics, and his final confrontation in Jerusalem.

  • Christology And Ethics

    $31.99

This book brings together leading theologians and ethicists to explore the neglected relationship between Christology and ethics. The contributors to this volume work to overcome the tendency toward disciplinary xenophobia, considering such questions as these:

What is the relation between faithful teaching about the reality of Christ and teaching faithfulness to the way of Christ?
How is christological doctrine related to theological judgments about normative human agency?
With renewed attention and creative reformulation, they argue, we can discover fresh ways of tending to these perennial questions.

GALATIANS 1: 7, 8 7which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! (New American Standard Bible) How many times have you read the account of the Five Thousand being fed in Matthew and wanted to know how Mark described it? Perhaps you have read what Luke said about the Triumphal Entry, and wanted to compare it with what John wrote. JESUS THE MESSIAH According to the Gospels emerged from this need. Nathanael Ben Yehoshua Alrabi, like you, sought the answers to such questions in the life and events of the historical Jesus, therefore, this book includes all the events taken directly from the four evangelists. This narrative is not a replacement of the Bible nor is it a different gospel. JESUS THE MESSIAH… is the result of six years of consultation, of researching the scripture and of organizing the story. This is the story of Jesus’ life and events in a chronological order easily followed in a single reading.

While many know of the signal contributions of such twentieth-century giants as Paul Tillich or Karl Barth or Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, the important work since their time often goes unremarked until some major controversy erupts. Here is a smart and helpful survey of the chief approaches and thinkers in today”s understanding of the person, significance, and work of Jesus Christ.

Schweitzer offers an insightful introduction to the contemporary context of Christology, in which basic questions in the discipline (and soteriology) are being rethought in light of globalization, postmodernity, and the contemporary experience of evil. He then offers a kind of typology of the current approaches and voices.

Schweitzer”s volume concludes with a reflection on the recent past and present imperatives of a discipline that virtually defines what Christianity has to offer the present age.

The Message of Easter is kept more in the background of the holiday than that of Christmas. After all, this is not the joyous welcoming of a baby with the giving of gifts, this is the brutal death of a young man, stripped of any gifts and dignity. For the Easter story to work as a joyous occasion you have to accept two stories – the death of Jesus – a negative event – and then the resurrection of Jesus – which requires faith. Without faith, the events speak of failure, with faith, they speak of triumph. Here the drama, purpose and events of Easter interplay around these two stories – and bring out the joy.

  • Are You The One Who Is To Come

    $28.00

“Jesus understood himself as designated by God as the Messiah of Israel.” This thesis may strike many historical-Jesus scholars as dangerously bold. But through careful study of the Gospels, Second Temple literature, and other period texts, scholar Michael Bird makes a persuasive argument that Jesus saw himself as performing the role attributed to the messiah in the Scriptures of Israel and believed that Israel’s restoration hinged on the outcome of his ministry.

Bird begins by exploring messianic expectations in the Old Testament and in Second Temple Judaism, finding in them an evolving messianism that provides historical context for Jesus’ life and teaching. Next, he examines the prevailing contention that the messianic claim originated not with Jesus himself but in the preaching of the early church. Bird argues that such contentions lack cogency and often skew the evidence. Examining the Gospels and related literature, he then shows that what Jesus said and did demonstrates that he believed he was Israel’s messiah. His career was “performatively messianic” in a way that shows continuity in eschatological terms between Israel and the church.

  • Heaven And Earth In The Gospel Of Matthew

    $46.00

The theme of heaven and earth is a much-overlooked aspect of the Gospel of Matthew. In this work, rising scholar Jonathan Pennington articulates a fresh perspective on this key interpretive issue. He challenges both the scholarly consensus on the kingdom of heaven in Matthew and a popular dispensationalist understanding, overturning some long-held assumptions in New Testament scholarship.

Pennington argues that rather than being a reverent way of referring to God as is typically assumed, “heaven” in Matthew is part of a highly developed discourse of heaven and earth language. He explains that Matthew’s way of using heaven language serves one overriding theological purpose: to highlight the tension that currently exists between heaven and earth or God and humanity, while looking forward to its eschatological resolution. Now available in paperback, this volume will appeal to students of the New Testament, including those interested in its theological and pastoral applications.

  • Jesus And Philosophy

“Around twenty years or so after his death, the fiery and interesting Jewish teacher Jesus of Nazareth was made into the personification of his own teaching, and given an exalted cosmic status. Within a few decades he had been so completely buried by supernatural beliefs about himself that in all the years since it has been very difficult to make out his own voice, and quite impossible to take him seriously as a thinker. “”Jesus and Philosophy”” asks on the basis of recent reconstructions of his teaching, what was Jesus’ moral philosophy? What was his world view? And, is he a big enough figure in the history of ethics to survive the end of the classic ecclesiastical beliefs about him? The author, Don Cupitt, argues that Jesus will be bigger after Christianity, which blocked the realization of just how revolutionary a figure he was.”

This book is about Jesus and His love for His children. It attempts to look at who we are, and how Christ relates to us in spite of who we are. Using the proper light of Scripture to view and expose ourselves, we are then enabled to see the glorious nature of His unconditional love for us. Thomas Watson rightly said, “Till sin be bitter, Christ will not be sweet.” My desire is that each of us would expand our view of Christ’s love for us. We have but a partial view of His incredible love, and so each of us needs to grow in our knowledge of it. This will be an eternal endeavor, and so I can think of very little that is more exciting than striving together to grow in the knowledge of the love of Christ. “Nothing binds me to my Lord like a strong belief in His changeless love.” – C.H. Spurgeon “We are never nearer Christ than when we find ourselves lost in a holy amazement at His unspeakable love.” – John Owen “Our Lord God must be a pious man to be able to love rascals.” – Martin Luther “He loved us not because we are lovable, but because He is love.” – C.S. • They Still Reject Jesus And The Oneness Of God

    $24.99

A universal question in both the religious and non-religious communities has always been whether or not Jesus is God. Subsequently, the theological question becomes: If He is God, how can this be reconciled or understood with respect to one’s belief in ONE GOD (monotheism)? In plain language, this book uses the Scriptures in a systematic theological approach to expose the Trinitarian error and those of other religions that reject Jesus as being the complete fullness of the Godhead. In this book, “They Still Reject Jesus,” the “Oneness Doctrine” is contrasted to that of a “3 Person God Doctrine.”

A welcome and innovative contribution to New Testament Studies! Greg Carey sets forth an excellent and innovative example of how to read the character of Jesus from a literary, historical, and theological perspective, with an emphasis on ethics of interpretation for the postmodern world. This bold study is not afraid to take on the topic of Jesus and examine Jesus’ responses to those considered “sinners” in the New Testament. Carey engages traditional topics such as the social and theological concept of sin, sinners and the impure, and the sinlessness of Jesus but he does so with an interpretative twist that brings fresh insight to the New Testament. Carey also examines more postmodern topics such as the masculinity of Jesus, the representation of how early Christians interacted with their neighbors, and with what it means for contemporary Christians take on a sinner consciousness, and its effects upon ecclesial communities and the world at large. In the wake of much conflict throughout the world and the quick casting of the Other as “sinner,” Carey’s work serves as an creative and important study on how to use the New Testament to promote peace rather than intolerance.

  • Life Together In The Way Of Jesus Christ

Dan Stiver has crafted an engaging one-volume introduction to Christian beliefs, based on his experience teaching introductory theology courses. While describing how traditional theology came to be, he explains for both undergraduates and graduate students how theology is already a part of their life of faith.
As he examines traditional theological issues and such current topics as globalization and ecology, Stiver treats theology as a living, dynamic activity. Employing useful case studies, his groundbreaking approach helps students understand what theology is–and shows them that they are participants in creating an ongoing, vigorous theology that will remain at the center of their faith for the rest of their lives.

Despite the striking frequency with which the Greek word for kyrios (Lord) occurs in Luke’s Gospel, this study is the first comprehensive analysis of Luke’s use of this word. Rowe offers a careful exegetical discussion of all the passages in the Gospel that use kyrios for Jesus in order to trace the complex and deliberate development in Luke’s narrative of Jesus’s identity as Lord. Detailed attention to Luke’s artistry and use of Mark demonstrates that Luke has a nuanced and sophisticated christology. For Rowe, Luke’s use of kyrios for Jesus not only after the resurrection but throughout shows Jesus’s close association with the God of Israel. This book, now available in paperback, was first published in hardcover by Walter de Gruyter.

  • Jesus The Man Who Loved Women

    $16.99

This stirring book explores Jesus’s heart and compassion for every woman — giving them undeniable value and significance.
Based on Jesus’s encounters with women during the time of his ministry, this tender book uncovers how time and again Jesus went against the traditional conventions of his era by treating women with respect and love, showing the world what a vital role they play. Jesus lived in an era where women were considered property and of little value as significant individuals. But by following Jesus’s example, readers will see how women should be cherished and uplifted. Each chapter touches on Jesus’s interactions with a specific woman, their conversations, and the gifts he bestows upon her. One tells of the widow who was burying her son, only to have Jesus resurrect him. Another is of the woman who was crippled for eighteen years and how Jesus not only freed her from her physical malady, but freed her spirit as well. But more than a mere retelling of these encounters, this book is a love story — a romance between the Creator of the universe come to earth and the women he came to know. Through these women, we see his love and compassion for every woman, and we watch as he lifts us all out of our ordinariness into the sublime intentions he planned for us since the beginning of time.

The Quest of the Hermeneutical Jesus is a study in how reading documents referring to Jesus influences conclusions as to who Jesus was as a figure in history. In this book, author Robert B. Stewart leads his readers through the projects of two of the most important and influential scholars in the field of historical Jesus research, in order to show his readers how the philosophical presuppositions and hermeneutical methods of Crossan and Wright impact their respective historical conclusions concerning Jesus. There is arguably no more important question in religious studies than: What can we know about Jesus? Stewart takes on the task of filling the void in this area by addressing how hermeneutics influences history. In addition to highlighting the work of two great scholars, Stewart also provides a useful introduction and guide through much of the maze of contemporary literary criticism.

  • Scroll Of The Gospel Of David

    $19.49

In John 5:39 and 46, Yeshua (Jesus) emphatically stated that the Torah was written about Him! Furthermore, in Luke 24:27 and 44-47, He stated that the following truths were prophesied in the Torah, the Prophets and the Psalms: He would suffer, die, be buried in the grave, resurrected, and finally, repentance and remission of sins would be preached in His name among the nations. With Yeshua’s statements in mind, would you be able to find one such prophecy? Unfortunately, most who believe that Yeshua is the Messiah are hard pressed to point to any such prophecies. Even so, The Scroll of the Gospel of David will introduce you to an entire world of Messianic prophecy in the Old Testament and will help you understand how the death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua in three days is the most prophesied event in the Old Testament!

  • Christology And Science

    $33.99

The dialogue between theology and science has blossomed in recent decades, but particular beliefs about Jesus Christ have not often been brought to the forefront of this interdisciplinary discussion even in explicitly Christian contexts. Here F. LeRon Shults breaks new ground by explicitly bringing the specific themes of Christology into dialogue with contemporary science. Shults seeks to articulate the Christian beliefs about Jesus Christ in a way that responds to challenges and opportunities that have arisen in light of various scientific discoveries. After a brief treatment of the history of the shaping of the ideas of Incarnation, Atonement, and Parousia, Shults traces developments in some of the sciences that have challenged these formulations – evolutionary biology, cultural anthropology, and physical cosmology. Each chapter also summarizes some of the popular constructive responses to these developments. After clarifying the way in which the Christian understandings of God and of humanity shape the task of reforming Christology, each chapter concludes with a programmatic outline of ways in which we might articulate the identity, agency, and presence of Jesus Christ in dialogue with late modern science and culture.
