    • Think Like Jesus

      $18.99

According to researcher George Barna, most born-again Christians live indistinctly from non-believers because they do not think any differently – which is a result of not understanding the basic truths of the Christian faith. Unveiling new data showing that less than one out of every ten born-again adults know the foundational truths of their faith well enough to “think like Jesus,” the author identifies seven core questions that Christians must be able to answer biblically in order to live a transformed life. The book provides the scriptural responses to those questions and practical applications that will enable Christians to learn how to “think like Jesus.”

    • Homiletic Of All Believers

      $32.00

Preaching, says professor and author O. Wesley Allen Jr., should be considered as a form of conversation. The church, after all, is a community of conversation that exists in part to interpret God’s purposes for the world and to participate in those purposes. The idea of the sermon as a conversation, then, is not simply a style or form of preaching but an integral expression of the nature and purpose of the church. Allen proposes that the sermon should take on the character of a conversation with the congregation. The preacher does this by incorporating an exploration of a text, doctrine, or situation with the give-and-take among different voices that marks genuine conversation. Through attentive listening to multiple voices in the Bible, Christian tradition, congregation, and beyond, the preacher seeks to help the congregation come to the most adequate interpretation of God’s presence and purposes. Allen also proposes that sermons themselves, over weeks and months, can and should be in conversation with each other, thereby having a cumulative effect over time. Allen not only proposes this new concept of preaching but also carefully demonstrates its practical application. This helpful book for clergy and seminary students includes sample sermons.

In a series of engaging essays and responses, the book explores how evangelism has functioned within Lutheranism historically and articulates a Lutheran theological perspective on evangelism within the broader developments in mission theology over the past several decades. It further helps to show how evangelism from a Lutheran perspective may be differentiated from other theologies of evangelism that are part of the Christian movement in our day.

The book moves from theory to practice as it relates this theology of evangelism to the life of congregations that are seeking to proclaim the gospel in the emerging postmodern context, provides congregations with perspectives on how to utilize this theology in shaping the practice of evangelism within their church life. A study guide to encourage group discussion and reflection is included.

    • Qualcomm Equation : How A Fledgling Telecom Company Forged A New Path To Bi

      $19.95

Featuring a foreword by George Gilder If you’re a Qualcomm customer or stockholder, or in fact if you have a stake in almost any cellular service or even just use a mobile phone, you’re no doubt aware of the enormous impact on the development of cellular technology by actress and sex symbol Hedy LaMarr. All right, perhaps you’re surprised. The telecom industry has never been short on surprises, and the above example is no exception. Nor is it an exaggeration. Read the book. Similarly, it is not an exaggeration to say that Qualcomm, through a combination of technological superiority, cunning business acumen, and sheer tenacity, has become the undisputed standard by which telecom companies now measure themselves. In short order, they have also become a model of substantial and sustained growth that businesses in all industries should emulate. Qualcomm’s rise mirrors that of the cell phone itself. Both are ubiquitous, both continue to evolve rapidly, and both turned the status quo on its head. The Qualcomm Equation reveals crucial but little-known information on the history of cellular and wireless technology — some of which dates back to World War II — and shows how the company grabbed the wave just as it began to rise. How did they do it? Even while most competitors were using an essential technology, Qualcomm believed in an alternative they had developed, and continued to refine and promote it until at last it caught on. The Qualcomm Equation details how the fledgling company, while their rivals simply duked it out for more customers, made a killing not only by offering great service, but also by leasing their superior standard technology to other telecom companies. While Qualcomm grew its own customer base, they had also, in essence, found a way to make more money the bigger their competitors got. How can you apply the Qualcomm model in your industry, and in your company? Following Qualcomm’s example, your company can: * attract investors by presenting even complex products and technologies in customer- and market-focused language * prove that its product is essential not only to customers but also to competitors — so that they come to depend on you rather than trying to defeat you * make its product and its operations compatible with those competitors, turning rivalries into profitable strategic alliances * learn from setbacks, and leverage the knowledge and strengths of your partners to overcome obstacles You’ll also learn crucial strategies to help

    • Ordering Of Love

      $21.00

“In a brilliant marriage of myth and manner, histories sacred and profane, prayers of petition and of praise, these poems both articulate and illumine the trouble in the gap in which we live-the gap between human affections and Divine Love. L’Engle is unfailing in her willingness to see through-not around-human suffering, and in so doing announces no final severing of spirit and flesh but an enduring vision of resurrection in that crux, in the cross, in the One in Whom all things meet, continuing.”
-Scott Cairns, author of Slow Pilgrim and Philokalia: New and Selected Poems

“I love L’Engle’s poetry for the way it incarnates not only the great Truths of the faith, but all the little truths of our ordinary existence-our working and playing and loving and fighting and dreaming and idling and all the rest of it-and for the way it shows us that those big and little truths should not, cannot, be separated.”
-Carolyn Arends, recording artist and author

“Why is L’Engle one of the defining poets of our time? Because when life hurts, she does not shrink from the wounds. She clarifies the murk with hope as we feel the lift of grace.”
      -Calvin Miller, Beeson Divinity School
      Birmingham, Alabama

“We are, all of us, the richer for this carefully crafted and prayerfully rendered collection.”
-Phyllis Tickle, Author, The Divine Hours

“Poetry, at least the kind I write, is written out of immediate need; it is written out of pain, joy, and experience too great to be borne until it is ordered into words. And then it is written to be shared.”
      -Madeleine L’Engle

Madeleine L’Engle’s writing has always translated the invisible and intricate qualities of love into the patterns and rhythms of visible life. Now, with compelling language and open-hearted vulnerability, The Ordering of Love brings together the exhaustive collection of L’Engle’s poetry for the first time.

This volume collects nearly 200 of L’Engle’s original poems, including eighteen that have never before been published. Reflecting on themes of love, loss, faith, and beauty, The Ordering of Love gives vivid and compelling insight into the language of the heart.

“An ambitious and much-needed effort to gather the key episodes and stories that highlight the important roles and vocations of lay women in both the 20th century church and the larger society. “Deeper Joy” not only chronicles the often unappreicated and undervalued past, but also points to the future of vital leadership and service.” – The Rt. Rev. Barbara C. Harris

Throughout the 20th century lay women in the Episcopal Church, often acting in isolation and without institutional support, offered a powerful witness of leadership, vocation, and theological resilience. Deeper Joy studies groups of women with similar callings yet located in diverse settings throughout church and society such as schools, hospitals, and other civic institutions. The topics presented here reflect new historical perspectives and unexplored primary materials, including interviews that bear on all women’s ministries, hence addressing neglected and important aspects of life in the American church.

After an introductory chapter on women and vocation, five major sections will explore lay women’s vocations through the lenses of community life, education, mission, civic life, and working for change from within the Episcopal Church. Topics include Anglican sisterhoods, the Companions of the Holy Cross, the deaconess movement, women of the New Deal, women in foreign missions, the settlement house movement, and women in education. The views of African-American, Asian, Hispanic, and Native American women are all represented. A concluding chapter addresses future directions for leadership and service.

    • Connecting : Healing Ourselves And Our Relationships

      $18.99

In his most significant book to date, Dr. Larry Crabb expands on his lifelong work in the field of psychotherapy to adopt a groundbreaking, but biblical, approach to healing the deep wounds of the soul–an approach that centers around building intimate, healing mini-communities in our lives and churches. Dr. Crabb envisions a day when communities of God’s people–ordinary Christians whose lives connect as husband to wife, brother to sister, friend to friend–will accomplish most of the healing that we now depend on mental health professionals to provide. God has deposited within us the power to heal soul-disease and that power is released to do its work as we relate to each other in revolutionary new ways. In challenging, practical language, Dr. Crabb shows us how. This revised and updated edition now includes a full workbook for those who want to better learn how to connect with the hearts and souls of those around them.

    • Father And The Son And The Holy Spirit

      $19.98

“The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” OR “Oneness-Jesus Only”: This book strives to provide biblically based answers to very important questions. Do we serve a Triune God who is ONE GOD and is seen in the three distinct persons of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, as Jesus Himself taught in Matthew 28:19? Or do we adhere to the teachings of the “Oneness-Jesus Only” doctrines that contradict the directives of Jesus Himself as given by Him to His disciples? This book also focuses on other doctrines within the “Oneness-Jesus Only” teachings that are in direct contradiction to the Word of God. Is water baptism in the Name of Jesus Only required for salvation? Is speaking in tongues a requirement of salvation as taught by Oneness Believers, or is speaking in tongues one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit as we read in 1 Corinthians Chapter 12? Are we saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as the Scriptures teach “OR” are we saved through faith and works as set forth by some denominations? Who are we to follow-God or man?

    • Speaking My Mind (Reprinted)

      $18.99

Fifteen years ago, Tony Campolo’s 20 Hot Potatoes That Christians Are Afraid to Touch pushed, pulled, and prodded Christians into serious consideration of controversial but critical issues related to the Christian life. Campolo challenged his more than 150,000 readers to re-think their convictions (and prejudices) and to do something about them!

Dubbed by Christianity Today as “the positive prophet” and “a ferocious critic of Christians left and right,” Campolo lives up to his reputation in this latest book examining some of today’s toughest questions and issues:

      Is evangelical Christianity anti-feminist?
Is our affluent lifestyle at odds with our faith?
Is America really in moral decline?
Is Islam really an evil religion?
Should Christian parents pull their kids out of public schools?
Was the war with Iraq a “just” war?
Speaking My Mind…Tony Campolo at his best.

    • Why Some Companies Emerge Stronger And Better From A Crisis

      $24.95

Like many companies over the last few years, yours has probably done a great deal to reassess its physical, strategic, and financial vulnerabilities. But there is a huge difference between business continuity planning and true crisis management. Do your company and employees have the necessary “IQ” not only to withstand a crisis but also to come through it with strength and confidence? Ian Mitroff, recognized around the world as an authority in crisis management, has created a plan that goes well beyond “disaster preparedness” to help your company get accustomed to working in the face of some unsettling facts: * In an age of terror, cyberattacks, large-scale corporate fraud and more, crisis is no longer a question of if, but of when. * Your company, no matter its size, industry, or location, is not immune from this reality. * Your contingency planning will only be as effective as the human beings charged with putting it into action. Mitroff outlines seven distinct competencies your organization needs to handle crises effectively: * Right Heart (emotional IQ): By accepting crisis as an inevitability, you can process much of the shock and grief beforehand, and avoid making the effects of the crisis even worse through an unconstructive response. * Right Thinking (creative IQ): “Crises don’t give a damn for the ways in which we have organized the world,” so out-of-the-box thinking is essential. * Right Social and Political IQ: Understand that your business is subject not only to the particular pitfalls of its industry, but also to the universal and complex challenges that threaten all companies. * Right Integration (integrative IQ): Realize that crises are perceived differently by different stakeholders, and are never simple “exercises” that can be “solved.” Identify and reconcile these perceptions now so that the path is clear when the crisis strikes. * Right Technical IQ: “Think like a controlled paranoid” to uncover ways in which malicious forces could cause a crisis in your company. Question every assumption about what is “normal,” “impossible,” or “absurd.” * Right Aesthetic IQ: Reconsider the classic design of the corporation, which is meant to address problems as they arise, and move toward one in which crisis management is an overarching discipline on a par with, for example, finance. * Spiritual IQ: Reject the notion that people’s physical, mental, and spiritual beings are completely separate; recognize that crises cause us to question the very meani

Bacher and Inskeep believe that mainline denominations serve as caretakers of the important American expressions of Christianity, and if they are weak or lost, society and the universal church will be the worse for it. They argue that a fundamentally American form of mainline denominationalism can and will endure, despite the rumor of its decline.

The authors examine six “rumors” of the decline. Using historical trends and current statistical information, they analyze the current situation and point to vital lessons, potential problems, and key challenges. They also offer helpful strategies and provide examples of what denominations are doing that show potential.

    • Faith Of The Outsider

      $25.99

This book offers a probing, insightful look at the “outsider” motif running through the Bible. The biblical story about God’s covenant with “insiders” – with Israel as the chosen people – is scandalous in today’s cultural climate of inclusivity. But, as Frank Anthony Spina shows, God’s exclusive election actually has an inclusive purpose.

Looking carefully at the biblical narrative, Spina highlights in bold relief seven remarkable stories that treat nonelect people positively and, even more, as strategically important participants in God’s plan of salvation. The stories of Esau, Tamar, Rahab, Naaman, Jonah, Ruth, and the woman at the well come alive in new ways as Spina discusses and examines them from an outsider-insider point of view.

      Additional Info
We live in an age of vast and rapid destruction of habitats and species. Yet Christianity holds great potential for healing this situation. Indeed, the Bible and Christian tradition are a treasure trove of rich images and stories about God as an “earthen” being who sustains the natural world with compassion and thereby models for humankind environmentally healthy ways of being.

Mark Wallace’s stimulating book retrieves a central but often neglected biblical theme – the idea of God as carnal Spirit who indwells all things – as the basis for constructing a “green spirituality” responsive to the environmental needs of our time.

In the biblical tradition, he writes, God as Spirit is an ecological presence that shows itself to us daily by living in and through the earth. One message of Christianity, therefore, is celebration of the bodily, material world – ancient redwoods, vernal springs, broad-winged hawks, everyday pigweed – as the place that God indwells and cares for in order to maintain the well-being of our common planetary home.

Alongside his green reading of the Bible and tradition, Wallace employs the resources of deep ecology, Neopagan spirituality, and the environmental justice movement to rethink Christianity as an earth-based, body-loving religion. He also analyzes color images reproduced in the book. Wallace’s bold yet careful work reawakens our sense of the sacrality of the earth and the life that the trinitarian God creates there. It also grounds the impulses of New Age spirituality in a profoundly biblical notion of God’s being and activity.
