  • Ruth A Portrait

    $21.00

Ruth Bell Graham is known as the wife of evangelist Billy Graham. It was Ruth who influenced Billy, as his most trusted life-partner. In Ruth, a Portrait, we meet this fascinating and remarkable woman. Brimming with anecdotes, this is a breathtaking journey, with stops at many of this century’s epoch-making events.

The childhood years of the future Mrs. Billy Graham were spent light-years away–in the China of the 1920s and 1930s. The daughter of medical missionaries, she and her family were caught in a crucible of unspeakable hardship; in addition to pestilence and plague, there was the unstable political and military turmoil surrounding the Nationalist government, the Communists, and the Japanese invaders. These hazardous realities shaped Ruth Bell and her family, a family inured to difficulties, but buoyed up by their deep belief in God’s abiding will.

Virtually raised by the Grahams, the author is a repository of Ruth Bell Graham’s stories and has seen firsthand the spirit of this courageous woman. Patricia Cornwell not only gives readers a full, rounded, and intimate portrait of Ruth Bell Graham, but also insight into the life of the Graham family and particularly Billy Graham.

  • Joyful Pilgrimage : My Life In Community

    $10.00

In the tumultuous aftermath of the First World War, thousands of young Germans defied the social mores of their parents and the constricting influence of the established churches in search of freedom, social equality, nature, and community. Hiking clubs were formed and work camps organized, and hundreds of rural folk schools and communes sprang up across the country. In the 1930s, Nazism swallowed this so-called Youth Movement virtually whole.

A Joyful Pilgrimage is the engaging story of a remnant that survived: the Bruderhof, a 75-year-old community that began when the author and her husband, a well-known writer and lecturer, abandoned their affluent Berlin suburb to start a new life and venture of faith.”

At first glance a memoir, A Joyful Pilgrimage is a radical call to faith and commitment against great odds. It is also a remarkable testimony to the leading of the Spirit, which, as Emmy Arnold writes, can hold together those who believe in the daily miracle of community through thick and thin. “

  • Virtues Of Aging

    $15.00

“We are not alone in our worry about both the physical aspect of aging and the prejudice that exists toward the elderly, which is similar to racism or sexism. What makes it different is that the prejudice also exists among those of us who are either within this group or rapidly approaching it. When I have mentioned the title of this book to a few people, most of them responded, ‘Virtues? What could possibly be good about growing old?’ The most obvious answer, of course, is to consider the alternative to aging. But there are plenty of other good answers–many based on our personal experiences and observations. “

In Listening with My Heart, Heather tells her own story and the stories of others who have inspired her, proving that with hard work, perseverance, and faith, each of us can move mountains. Profoundly deaf since she was eighteen months old, Heather strove to live a normal life, and refused to listen to the voices of discouragement that many of us so often hear, no matter what problems confront us. She wouldn’t listen to the doctor who said she wouldn’t develop beyond third-grade abilities, or to those who said she would never dance ballet, or even speak. She did, however, hear the encouraging spirit of her family and followed the guidance of her own heart’s dreams. Struggling through her difficulties, she was sustained by every success–no matter how small–and ultimately became Miss America 1995. Though she is disabled, her incredible gifts have inspired many throughout the world, and in Listening with My Heart she at last shares her life-changing wisdom.

  • C S Lewis A Print On Demand Title

    $29.99

A compulsive writer from childhood, C. S. Lewis saw the world primarily through the medium of books. He read voraciously, and his own writing covers a broad range of genres. This timely study of C. S. Lewis casts a unique light on this beloved figure by tracing his development as a reader and a writer of books.

Lionel Adey shows how the two sides of Lewis’s personality, for which Adey adopts the motifs of “the Dreamer” and “the Mentor,” are key to understanding Lewis’s writing in its various modes. Adey describes Lewis’s early development and then devotes a chapter to each kind of writing he attempted: literary history, practical and theoretical criticism, novels for adults and for children, poetry, apologetics, essays and addresses, and letters. Throughout, Adey discusses formative biographical events in Lewis’s life, such as the death of his mother when he was nine years old. Adey concludes with an estimate of Lewis’s achievement and enduring legacy as a writer.

    IN THE TRENCHES
When Reggie White signed with Green Bay, he was the team’s last, best hope to bring a title back to Titletown, USA. The Packers were in dire need of some serious intimidation on the defensive line and, some would argue, a little divine intervention.

Three years later, the pack was back and Reggie had led them to their 1996 Super Bowl win, making believers of everyone along the way!

For Green Bay’s Reggie White, there’s not much difference between faith, football, and everything else. Whether he’s chewing up offensive linemen on his way to his place in the Football Hall of Fame, speaking out against the racism and injustice of fire-bombings in black churches including his own, or planting ministries in the tough turf of inner cities, he invests the same intensity, the same commitment of will, energy, and focus.

In the Trenches is Reggie’s own fast-paced, inspiring account of his colorful, sometimes controversial career, both in the pros and in the pulpit. Packed with insights, observations, and war stories of his twelve years in the NFL-including his championship season-In the Trenches delves into the heart of an amazing athlete who balances an array of extremes: he is both beloved and feared, tough and gentle, competitive and compassionate, fierce and generous.

Better than a front-row seat on the 50-yard line, In the Trenches is your ticket to the sights, sounds, thoughts, and emotions that surround one of America’s most popular sports and one of its most respected stars.

  • Blaise Pascal A Print On Demand Title

    $25.99

As striking and dramatic as any conversion experience recorded in history are the words of Blaise Pascal found sewn into the lining of his jacket by a servant after his death: “From about half-past ten in the evening until about half-past twelve – FIRE. God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, not of the philosophers and scholars. God of Jesus Christ.

Known as the memorial, these words describing Pascal’s “night of fire” are all the more powerful coming from the mind of a genius of Mozartean scale. One of the greatest luminaries of France’s grand siecle, Pascal (1623-1662) was a groundbreaking mathematician, physicist, and inventor as well as a profound religious thinker and Christian believer whose random thoughts – his Pensees – continue to move thoughtful readers today.

This biography by Marvin R. O’Connell captures Pascal’s life and times with a chronological narrative based on the published sources and Pascal’s own works. From Pascal’s early life as a child prodigy already experimenting in physics at the age of ten to his adult years as one of Europe’s leading intellectuals, O’Connell takes readers on an eloquent journey into Pascal’s world, showing them the passion that drove the man and the radical spirituality he sought in his own heart. In the process, O’Connell also illumines the social, political, and religious intrigue of seventeenth-century Paris, especially the winner-take-all struggle between the Jesuits and the Jansenists, with whom Pascal himself was allied.

Meticulously researched yet written in an enjoyable style accessible to all, this volume will aptly acquaint readers with the life and thought of Pascal – remarkable human being, luminous Christian thinker.

  • Life And Thought Of Kanzo Uchimura 1861-1930 A Print On Demand Title

    $25.99

While staying in the United States in 1884 at the age of 23, Kanzo Uchimura (1861-1930) felt a sense of religious calling that led him to devote the rest of his life to Christian mission in Japan. His subsequent life and work earned him recognition as one of the most important Japanese thinkers, essayists, and theologians of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Uchimura claimed that Japan adopted Western civilization at the reopening of the country in the late nineteenth century but did not adopt Christianity itself – the very cause, spirit, and life of Western civilization. This was the origin of all the difficulties Japan had been experiencing. There is no question that Uchimura believed Christianity would save Japan and the Japanese; the real question was “What kind of Christianity?”

In his view Christian faith entails a radical dependence on the gospel; baptism, communion, and the other sacraments are not necessary. He also believed that God’s truth can be revealed directly to each individual, so that an intermediary between God and people, such as a minister, priest, or pope, is not required. This argument led Uchimura to start the Mukyokai-shugi (Non-churchism), a denial of the institutional church. Miura here explores in depth this theme in Uchimura’s thought as well as Uchimura’s particular vision of Japan’s mission to the world.

This study not only offers Western readers new information about Kanzo Uchimura and the Japanese Non- church Movement; it also provides important insights into the way Christianity can be indigenized in a new culture, such as that of modern Japan.

Hambrick-Stowe tells the story of Finney’s remarkable life and offers fresh insights into the nature of evangelicalism and the nineteenth- century American experience. Thousands of patients have been inspired by her, and her success has spurred hospitals across the nation to launch music therapy programs. “Music and healing are often matters of the human spirit,” says Deforia. “because of the nature of my job, I have witnessed more than a few miracles, miracles worth telling and retelling.” Music as Medicine is a window into Deforia Lane’s world of miracles, where the melody of one person’s life has brought healing and strength to many.

Little Amy Never Knew Her Father.

One dark night when she was only a baby, the Soviet secret police forcefully arrested Amy’s father…and condemned him to the frigid wastelands of Siberia.

Then as World War II began, the armies of the Third Reich invaded her small Russian Village. Amy, a tender seven-year-old child, was taken by cattle car to a slave labor camp and witnessed firsthand the horrors of Hitler’s Germany.

As the war ends, Amy and her mother make a daring escape, with execution the likely verdict if they are captured. Over the years, Amy wondered about her father. Was he still alive? Would she ever see him again?

A true story, Goodbye Is Not Forever serves as a vivid confirmation of God’s never-ending grace in the lives of His children.

  • Martin Luther Volume 2

Brecht here describes the years in which the distinctive aspects of the Reformation took shape. During this time four difficult conflicts — the Peasants’ War, the interchange between Luther and Erasmus, debates on the Lord’s Supper, and the rise of Anabaptist groups — strengthened the need to fashion new orders for governing the church and the need to develop new patterns for worship and the instruction of youth. Luther the theologian was occupied with problems of politics, economy, law, and education. In addition, his own life was altered by his marriage. Martin Brecht, leading Luther Scholar, is Professor of Reformation and Modern Church History at the University of Muenster, Germany.
