Gender Roles And The People Of God
$24.99Most women in the church don’t aspire to “lord it” over men, nor do they want to scramble for position. Instead, they want to be accepted as full participants in God’s work, sharing in kingdom tasks in ways that use their gifts appropriately.
In Gender Roles and the People of God, author, radio host, and professor at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary Alice Mathews surveys the roles women have played in the Bible and throughout church history, demonstrating both the inspiring contributions of women and the many hurdles that have been placed in their path. Along the way, she investigates the difficult passages often used to preclude women from certain areas of service, pointing to better and more faithful understandings of those verses.
Encouraging and hopeful, Mathews aims for an “egalitarian complementarity” in which men and women use all of their gifts in the church together, in partnership, for the glory of God.

Great Cloud Of Witnesses Speak
$19.98Speaking to saints from heaven might be rare, but in these times, more and more people are starting to experience it. In biblical times, Jesus had a conversation with Moses and Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration recorded in Matthew 17:1-9. Then, in Matthew 27:50-53, as Jesus died and the temple veil was torn, Scripture records in verse 52-53, ..”.and the graves were opened and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised…and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many….”
We are living in times where known prophets are speaking of encounters they have had with departed saints. For many years, Matthew has been having visitations, and more recently, Jesus commissioned him to interview five saints that the Holy Spirit brought to earth. These saints, part of the great cloud of witnesses mentioned in Hebrews 12:1, all answered the same nine questions. These included:
* How do you feel being here to speak to the world today?
* What do you think is special to God?
* What do you like about heaven?
* What keys do you consider important for the Christian life?
* What message do you have for this generation?
Read these interviews and the answers from the saints. Come to know these biblical characters in a new and fresh way. Let them speak to you of the God they love and the Jesus they worship. Read their perspectives on the life they lived on earth and the one they now live in heaven. The saints interviewed in order of appearance follow: Bob Jones; John Paul Jackson; Madame Jeanne Guyon; Joseph, Jesus’ father; and Joseph, Jacob’s son.

Wholly Citizens : God’s Two Realms And Christian Engagement With The World
$65.00Introduction
?1. The Legacy Of Luther
2. The Two Realms: Interpreters Of Luther, Faithful And Otherwise
3. Two Realms For Today: Suitable And Wholly Relevant
4. Applying The Teaching To The Church And Her Pastors
5. Applying The Teaching To The Individual Christian Believers
6. An Essay Grounded In The Two Realms: “Story Time In America”Bibliography
IndexAdditional Info
Wholly Citizens addresses the relation between the church and the world in light of the Reformation teaching of the two realms-especially as presented by Luther. Rather than exploring again the usual texts of Luther from the 1520’s, this book begins with a careful reading of Luther’s Commentary on Psalm 81 (1531), and then considers subsequent interpreters of Luther, both faithful and otherwise, and the dubious legacy they have left the church. The book argues that both the corporate church as well as individual believers are responsible for the world, and that each must speak directly about and to the world in meaningful ways. The final section of the book addresses the concrete situation facing believers in the early 21st century in light of faithful Reformation teaching about the two realms. Following this path leads to conclusions not entirely expected, including the forthright rejection of “a wall of separation” between church and state, and also a rebuke of the familiar clamor for the preservation of the rights of Christians and the church. Heedless of the status quo, Wholly Citizens offers an engaging and bracing picture of Christian life in today’s world-a picture framed in theological truth.Add to cartin stock within 3-5 days of online purchase

Each volume in the Insights series discusses discoveries and insights gained into biblical texts from a particular approach or perspective in current scholarship. Accessible and appealing to today’s students, each Insight volume discusses how this method, approach, or strategy was first developed and how its application has changed over time; what current questions arise from its use; what enduring insights it has produced; and what questions remain for future scholarship.Mitzi J. Smith describes the distinctive African American experience of Scripture, from slavery to Black Liberation Theology and beyond, and the unique angles of perception that an intentional African American interpretation brings to the text for a contemporary generation of scholars. Smith shows how questions of race, ethnicity, and the dynamics of “othering” have been developed in African American biblical scholarship, resulting in new reading of particular texts. Further, Smith describes challenges that scholarship raises for the future of biblical interpretation generally.

New Day In The City
$21.99Frederich Buechner once wrote, “Dreams of fame and fortune die hard, if they ever die at all.” Many mainline urban congregations remember the days of fame and fortune-days when their prominence downtown mattered. Population shifts, the decline of mainline congregations, and demographic changes have robbed many downtown churches of these dreams – but not all churches. Many congregations struggle to survive while others are positioned to thrive. These churches have learned to let go of nostalgic dreams and tired habits, to walk with God into a new day of vibrancy, mission, and ministry. Authors Donna Claycomb Sokol and Roger Owens have pastored urban congregations that have managed to grow again, reversing decades of decline. In A New Day in the City they share the stories of the churches they’ve served, and the lessons they’ve learned from other successful urban churches and pastors. Their aim is to help others join God in the deep and wide mission of embodying the Kingdom. Along the way, they challenge some cliches about church leadership, offering a fresh perspective on what congregational renewal can look like and how it can become a reality. The book does not offer easy answers, because churches can’t simply replicate what someone else has done. Rather, the book offers the framework for crucial conversations urban churches need to have in order to find their own way to renewal. The end of each chapter features a set of practical guidelines for leading a congregation to address the questions that matter most.

Not All Roads Lead To Heaven (Reprinted)
$17.99Almost 60 percent of those in American evangelical churches believe that many religions can lead to eternal life. But if Jesus is to be trusted when he says that no one comes to the Father except through him, the church is failing in its mission. And it’s not hard to guess why. An exclusive Jesus just isn’t popular in our inclusive world.
Dr. Robert Jeffress calls on Christians to recover the exclusive claims of the one they claim as Lord and Savior, not as a way to keep people out of heaven but as the only way to invite them in. He tackles questions like:
*Can people be saved who have never heard of Christ?
*What about those who worship God by another name?
*Do children automatically go to Heaven when they die?True compassion for non-Christians doesn’t lie in letting them go their way while we go ours, but in sharing the only true way with them.

Beyond The Modern Age
$36.99The modern age has produced global crises that modernity itself seems incapable of resolving-deregulated capitalism, consumerism, economic inequality, militarization, overworked laborers, environmental destruction, insufficient health care, and many other problems. The future of our world depends on moving beyond the modern age. Bob Goudzwaard and Craig G. Bartholomew have spent decades listening to their students and reflecting on modern thought and society. In Beyond the Modern Age they explore the complexities and challenges of our time. Modernity is not one thing but many, encompassing multiple worldviews that contain both the source of our problems and the potential resources for transcending our present situation. Through an archaeological investigation and critique of four modern worldviews, Goudzwaard and Bartholomew demonstrate the need for new ways of thinking and living that overcome the relentless drive of progress. They find guidance in the work of Rene Girard on desire, Abraham Kuyper on pluralism and poverty, and Philip Rieff on culture and religion. These and other thinkers point the way towards a solution to the crises that confront the world today. Beyond the Modern Age is a work of grand vision and profound insight. Goudzwaard and Bartholomew do not settle for simplistic analysis and easy answers but press for nuanced engagement with the ideologies and worldviews that shape the modern age. The problems we face today require an honest, interdisciplinary, and global dialogue. Beyond the Modern Age invites us to the table and points the way forward.

Israel Matters : Why Christians Must Think Differently About The People And (Rep
$25.88Widely respected theologian Gerald McDermott has spent two decades investigating the meaning of Israel and Judaism. What he has learned has required him to rethink many of his previous assumptions.
Israel Matters addresses the perennially important issue of the relationship between Christianity and the people and land of Israel, offering a unique and compelling “third way” between typical approaches and correcting common misunderstandings along the way. This book challenges the widespread Christian assumption that since Jesus came to earth, Jews are no longer special to God as a people, and the land of Israel is no longer theologically significant. It traces the author’s journey from thinking those things to discovering that the New Testament authors believed the opposite of both. It also shows that contrary to what many Christians believe, the church is not the new Israel, and both the people and the land of Israel are important to God and the future of redemption.
McDermott offers an accessible but robust defense of a “New Christian Zionism” for pastors and laypeople interested in Israel and Christian-Jewish relations. His approach will also spark a conversation among theologians and biblical scholars.

Explorations In Asian Christianity
$54.99Asia is the birthplace of Christianity. If Christianity is not usually seen as an Asian religion, that is because the history of Christianity in Asia has long been a difficult one. Whereas Christianity in the West received royal support, Asian Christianity has led a more nomadic and exilic existence. Today it is the least Christianized region of the world. Scott W. Sunquist is a recognized expert on the history of the Christian faith in Asia. Over the years he has published and spoken frequently on this theme. Explorations in Asian Christianity gathers his key writings on the topic and organizes them into four main categories: surveys that look at Asian Christianity in broad perspective, historical investigations that look at how Christianity shapes our understanding of history and historiography, missiological studies that look closely at issues of place, and finally essays on theological education. Topics explored in this volume include Ecumenism in AsiaThe cruciform nature of ChristianityA missiology of placeThe Christian view of timeGlobal migrationExplorations in Asian Christianity sheds light on one of the most important but least well-known areas in Christian history.

Evil abounds. And so do the attempts to understand God in the face of such evil. The problem of evil is a constant challenge to faith in God. How can we believe in a loving and powerful God given the existence of so much suffering in the world? Philosophers and theologians have addressed this problem countless times over the centuries. New explanations have been proposed in recent decades drawing on resources in Scripture, theology, philosophy, and science. God and the Problem of Evil stages a dialogue between the five key positions in the current debate: Phillip Cary: A Classic ViewWilliam Lane Craig: A Molinist ViewWilliam Hasker: An Open Theist ViewThomas J. Oord: An Essential Kenosis ViewStephen Wykstra: A Skeptical Theism View According to the classic position, associated especially with the Augustinian tradition, God permits evil and suffering as part of the grand narrative of divine providence to bring about the redemption of creation. Molinism modifies the classic view by adding God’s middle knowledge to the picture, in which God has knowledge of what creatures would do in all possible worlds. Open theism rejects the determinism of the classic view in favor of an account of God as a risk-taker who does not know for sure what the future holds. Essential kenosis goes further in providing a comprehensive theodicy by arguing that God cannot control creatures and thus cannot unilaterally prevent evil. Skeptical theism rejects the attempt to provide a theodicy and instead argues that, if God exists, we should not expect to understand God’s purposes. Edited, with an introduction, by Chad Meister and James K. Dew Jr., God and the Problem of Evil hosts a generous and informative conversation on one of the most pressing issues in the Christian life.Add to cartin stock within 3-5 days of online purchase

Preaching In The Era Of Trump
$14.99Now more than ever, it’s time to preach.
The election of Donald Trump left countless faith leaders across the country speechless. Now that he is president, silence must give way to prophetic preaching.
Christians have long debated whether politics should be addressed from the pulpit. Following Donald Trump’s controversial, divisive rise to power and the sweeping changes his fledgling administration has already proposed, that s no longer a question political preaching will be the order of the day, even for pastors who try to steer clear of controversy. 1 New Man Bible Companion Volume 1 (Student/Study Guide)
$23.51Commentary and Study Guide
This exhaustive commentary by Rev. William Morford, translator and editor of the One New Man Bible covers more than two-hundred indexed subjects in eleven chapters, including the nature of God, covenant, the Hebrew and Greek languages, religious myths, biblical word meanings, teachings, Jewish roots, repentance and the Patriarchs.
Also included are biblical weights and measures, Hebrew months, and a map of the united kingdom in the days of David and Solomon.
At more than 91,000 words and 242 pages this companion to the One New Man Bible, will serve as a useful and constant guide in your Bible study for years to come.
From the Foreword by Thomas A. McRae:
The “Body Of Christ,” known today as the Church, desperately needs a transforming work of the Spirit of Truth in our midst – the truth of God’s inspired Word that’s free from distorted doctrine and ‘religious philosophy.’Under God’s gracious direction, Bill Morford has done a great service to the Saints with the writing of this “Companion.” The One New Man Bible, with its more than 4,000 footnotes; along with this supplement, is a tremendous help for clearing up much miss-interpretation, miss-understanding, miss-aligned applications and conclusions of Biblical texts. Biblical terms which have been miss-understood by much of the Community of Believers are now made clear and understandable. It offers to us a more accurate knowledge of God’s inspired message to humanity.
Within these pages you will find a treasure of knowledge and understanding of the whole Bible and, hopefully, a renewed love for the Truth of God’s Word. It is one thing to read about truth, but quite another to understand it correctly for a righteous walk of faith. Consider this material to be a “magnifying glass” which exposes distortions imposed by religious tradition, compromise and a limited defining of Biblical terms. It is also a ‘light’ shining into our hearts to bring us fuller knowledge of Truth; for it is our knowing the Truth that sets us free and experiencing Truth that makes us and keeps us free, indeed.

How am I meant to feel as a Christian? You can go to an evangelical church on a Sunday and be told: “Christian, you are loved by God, no matter what you’ve done. God could not love you more than he does.” You can go to another evangelical church and be told: “You’re a wretched sinner”. The emphasis can feel very different, and yet both churches are teaching truth.
Holding both truths together in balance can be tricky but it’s essential for healthy Christian living. Overemphasizing one at the expense of the other causes all sorts of problems.
Perfect Sinners will help us keep the balance, as we distinguish between our “status” before God and our “walk” with him.
